Abstract

Research and development in Management support systems is typically focused on how information technology can improve the efficiency with which managers perform their work, make decisions, and improve the effectiveness of their decisions. Management support systems have greatly evolved since their first occurrence in the seventies. Some models have matured, while new concepts, technologies and solutions have emerged. With new approaches additional research efforts were conducted, but with their terms overlapping some state of confusion was created.The goal of this paper is to investigate the main streams of current R&D in Management support systems and to point out some noteworthy issues in the eyes of communities, tackled by the problem. In our research we analyzed research efforts in Academic community, expectations of the Experts and development efforts conducted in software and service vendor community.
