Abstract

This theoretically conceived paper discusses about significant changes in management of port container terminal, which are under very high pressure of international trade, in order to become more and more active interfaces in the transport chain. They must become efficient and cost effective logistics hubs where all available modes of transport can be effectively interconnected. In the paper are shown concrete theoretically proposals for definition of processes and subsystems of maritime container terminals, which serve to the port management in the development of an appropriate processes models and strategies, in order to achieve best operational results. In addition, a decision support model is developed in the article, in order to supports terminal managers in the evaluation of best development and investment decisions, and simulation model as a tool to search possibilities of optimisation and planning of a maritime container terminal. With an adequate application of cognitions it is possible to achieve lowering operational costs and higher service quality of the entire system.
